About The Project

The Barber and Beauty Shop Behavioral Health (BnB) Project, managed by Northwest Credible Messenger (NWCM) and funded by the Washington State Department of Commerce’s Community Reinvestment Project (CRP), expands access to behavioral health care in Black and Brown communities by training trusted barbers and beauticians as  Certified Peer Counselors and Healing-Centered Engagement Practitioners. By delivering wellness support in culturally familiar spaces—local barber and beauty shops—the BnB Project addresses mental health inequities in Black and Brown communities, offering care in six counties across Washington state.

Program Background

The BnB Project was developed in response to persistent gaps in behavioral health access within Black and Brown communities. By leveraging the trust and relationships already present in barbershops and beauty salons, the program offers a community-driven approach to care that meets people where they are and connects them to meaningful support.
